Information
New learning and living in the north
In addition to 800 residential units, the future Karlsquartier in the north of Dortmund is to include an elementary school with a sports hall. An 81 x 81 meter area next to the Hoesch Museum on the site of the former Westfalenhütte is planned for this. Students from the Faculty of Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund have drawn up designs for this. At the same time, the project and area developer BPD Immobilienentwicklung GmbH will present the current developments for the Karlsquartier.

About the project
The project was completed very compactly within 12 weeks. The 6th semester students were confronted with a somewhat more complex and real room program for the first time. What was special was that the students were able to visit an elementary school in Nordstadt at the start of the design process and the head teacher and teaching staff were able to give them valuable input. With a real property, a real room program and real users, the design task was therefore very practical. The design results are conceptually very different and show a range of possibilities for placing a 4-stream elementary school and an associated 2-field sports hall on the site.
