Pastry bags with the inscription "Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf dem Campus!" (Violence doesn't come on campus!) draw attention to the "International Day against Violence against Women" around November 25, 2023 in the canteens of the Dortmund Studierendenwerk. Flags with the same design will fly at the Dortmund campus locations.
"Our joint campaign with the TU, the Fachhochschule Südwestfalen and the Studierendenwerk raises awareness of the help available," explain Sonja Hunscha, Equal Opportunities Officer at Fachhochschule Dortmund, and her deputy Pia Becker.
The nationwide emergency number 08000 116 016 is printed on the bags as well as the finger movements of the "silent call for help", which can be used to signal an emergency situation. Design student Viola Dessin had already designed the canteen bag last year for a city-wide project with Dortmund bakeries and has now used her design for matching flags. "Seeing the motto 'Gewalt kommt mir nicht auf den Campus' in front of the TU buildings sends out a strong signal for a campus based on solidarity," she says happily.
It is therefore also important to Equal Opportunities Officer Sonja Hunscha and her deputy Pia Becker that the phrase "No to violence against girls and women" can be read on the bag in a total of thirteen languages: "We are an international university, everyone should help to finally reduce the number of acts of violence against women." This is because women are affected in all areas of society, including female students and employees at the university. For this reason, the two are currently working with a "Sexualized Discrimination and Violence" working group of the Equal Opportunities Commission to develop a protection concept for the university.
