Information
The new Master's study program at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts focuses on the holistic and good design of digital change. The first semester exhibition of the study program shows what this means and how much it affects our everyday lives.
On cleverly designed posters, the students present what they have discovered about the digital systems in our lives. For example:
- How the "No Youtube Shorts" add-on for the Chrome browser removes the addictive "shorts" videos from Youtube and why this is a good thing
- How Netflix's algorithm not only controls individual recommendations, but is shaping the entire industry
- How the food recycling app "Too Good To Go" works and what its strengths and weaknesses are
- How Netflix started as an online DVD rental service in 1997 and used technical developments to become a global success with streaming
The students themselves will guide visitors through the exhibition and explain their work and results.
The afternoon begins at 4 p.m. with an information event for prospective students. After the tour at 5 p.m., there will be two lectures at 6 p.m. by Linda Ruth Schmidt from the Association of German Industrial Designers entitled "Shaping responsibility - a core competence for successful digital change" and Prof. Dr. Michael Kühler (Fachhochschule Dortmund) on "Digital Ethics". Afterwards there will be an opportunity to make contacts.
The exhibition not only serves to inform visitors, but also counts as an academic achievement for the students: The generally understandable presentation and communication of their results is part of the semester assignment. The plan is to offer the information exhibition at the start of each semester in future - with current work from the previous semester.
