Information
Social expectations and experiences of discrimination - queer people overcome numerous hurdles in everyday life. Students from the Faculty of Design and the Faculty of Applied Social Studies at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences have explored the topics of queerness, gender and sexuality both artistically and scientifically. Their work can be seen in the Nordstadtgalerie from Saturday, October 5, 2024. With the exhibition "I'm Still Standing", the university wants to create visibility for this sensitive topic and at the same time offer a space for discourse and exchange.
The exhibition will therefore be supplemented with additional content:
- On Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 4 pm, the English-language documentary "Khawaja Siras: Pakistan's Trans Community in Between Tradition and Modernity" by UAS student Miriam Wolter will be shown. She was awarded the UAS Design and Gender Prize for her work. Moazzam Ali Banawaz (they/them), one of the film's protagonists, will be on site and open for questions and discussions afterwards. The gallery is open on Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm.
- On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the Queere Theaterkollektiv will be a guest at the Nordstadtgalerie between 5 and 7 pm and will present a performance on queer feelings.
- On Friday, October 18, 2024, students from the Faculties of Design and Applied Social Studies will be on site to talk to visitors about their work.
- On Monday, October 28, 2024, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Dennert, lecturer at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies, will make a guest appearance at the Nordstadtgalerie and speak on the topic of "Health promotion for lesbians as an intersectional challenge" from 8 pm.
- The event will conclude with a "queer pub quiz" on Thursday, November 7, 2024, starting at 8 p.m.
Admission to all events is free.
