dESIGN12+ #8: Dr. Wolfgang Brückle

moderated by Prof. Achim Mohné

Dr. Wolfgang Brückle teaches art and cultural studies at the Department of Design, Film and Art at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland), where he initiated the research projects "Postphotography" and "Curating Photography in the Networked Image Economy", among others. For many years, his work has focused primarily on various aspects of the history of photography.

His guest lecture deals with our possibilities of describing and assessing three decades of post-photographic media practices against the background of the medium's almost two-hundred-year history. We have the digital, the automated, the networked image. With this in mind, it is about breaks and constancies and about our understanding of contemporary photography: to what extent is it part of a development and to what extent is it completely new? Is photography still alive or just undead? The answer can be either way, the question always remains new.
