What makes us special
Model project with modern concepts
The Faculty of Information Technology ideally combines a demanding, professionally-focused education with current issues from research and development. Close practical relevance and high-quality student support are important to us. Open laboratories and the strengthening of computer science in engineering education serve as a model for education at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
The course is application and project-oriented. You often learn in small groups and on the basis of case studies. The course content is geared towards the future and the labor market, and the laboratory and practical rooms are equipped to the highest technical standards.
The faculty is currently made up of the ICT - Institute for Communication Technology and the LIT - Laboratories for Information Technology and Biomedical Engineering.
City and region
Advancing digitization
The City of Dortmund has launched a Digital Dortmund master plan to develop modern solutions at the interface between the city administration and urban society. The Faculty of Information Technology supports the implementation of this
of this strategy and sets corresponding priorities. The aim is to provide the city and the region with qualified graduates who can actively shape this development. As part of one of the largest universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, we are aware of our social responsibility.
The faculty is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. The good reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund and the participation of the Faculty of Information Technology in company and industry networks offer attractive opportunities for cooperation in the region. As part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is also culturally very diverse and multifaceted. It is a good place to live, especially as rents and the cost of living are comparatively low compared to other university cities.
Internationality
International and intercultural networking
The Faculty of Information Technology is internationally oriented. We support the mobility of our students beyond national borders as well as international cooperation. During a stay abroad, you can expand your intercultural skills and acquire part of your academic achievements. Our faculty continues to follow the internationalization strategy of the Ruhr Master School (RMS) and thus offers you the opportunity to take advantage of RMS offers. The strategy includes language courses, international exchanges via summer schools and conferences, student exchanges with international partner universities and intercultural training.
Research
Future-oriented topics and projects
Our faculty stands for research at an international level. Our own research activities, numerous national and international collaborations, funded projects in various funding schemes and with various partners as well as numerous publications are proof of our successful activities in the field of research.
These activities offer students the opportunity to work on exciting and future-oriented projects. This applies to project work or your Master's thesis, but also as part of research assistant activities or as an employee or doctoral candidate after successfully completing your Master's degree.
Subject-specific methods and skills
In addition to pure specialist knowledge, you will also learn project management and planning for research and development projects, quality assurance methods and the use of appropriate software tools.
The RMS summer schools are part of our compulsory elective program. They give you the opportunity to discuss socially relevant and interdisciplinary issues related to technology with external speakers from industry and society.
