There is often talk of a split in society. But what is the real state of social cohesion, should we be worried or is a certain degree of division part and parcel of a vibrant democracy? During the coronavirus pandemic, many people have found that it has become difficult to engage in joint dialog, with families and circles of friends often being torn apart. This article takes these phenomena as a starting point for thinking about social cohesion, explaining it theoretically and examining it empirically.
