Research
Substation Configuration Tool - SCT
As part of ongoing research activities in the field of "Energy supply and station control technology", a feasibility study for a manufacturer-neutral engineering tool for station control systems based on the international standard IEC 61850 "Communication networks and systems for automation in electrical energy supply" was carried out as preliminary work and on behalf of a transmission network operator.
A cooperation partner was found in the companyH&S Hard- und Softwaretechnologie GmbH&Co.(Opens in a new tab) which, as a service provider for the energy industry, is highly interested in building up knowledge and using such a tool for modern system preparation and, as a medium-sized system house, is independent of equipment manufacturers.
The cooperation involved several steps: First, the raw development of the software application was started through employee funding at Fachhochschule Dortmund. At the same time, market opportunities for completely new engineering strategies and project processes associated with the tool were identified through Prof. Harnischmacher's membership of standardization committees. The final development of the market-ready software product was undertaken by the company H&S.
Product maintenance and further development is now carried out by a permanent team of employees and continues to be supported by a cooperation.
