World cinema premiere of FH film "The first train"

Published

Gero Brötz's team (to the right of the camera) also filmed in Dortmund's "Saarlandstraße" subway station.

Gero Brötz is bringing Dortmund author Markus Veith's novel "Die erste Bahn" to the big screen with his final project for his Master's degree in Film at Fachhochschule Dortmund. A subway station was even recreated in the university's studio for the filming. The film will premiere in Lünen cinema on September 28, 2024.

The story: Kai Trollmann misses the last subway train. He has no choice but to wait in the station until the next morning. Here he meets a woman who suddenly points a gun at him. "My name is Helen Trollmann. And I'm going to shoot you!" Helen is his daughter. From the future. They now spend the hours until the "first train" together. Kai and his possible future. Helen and her past life with her father. And a present that could change everything.

"I was given Markus Veith's script to read and was so captivated by it that I absolutely wanted to make it into a movie," says Gero Brötz. "It's a father-daughter drama, but in a science fiction guise. The play with time makes it extremely exciting." Author Markus Veith is involved in the production as co-director. "The story has many levels," he says. And the film production was just as multifaceted.

Filming began back in October 2022 and ran for three months. The scenography team led by FH students Natalja Hipke and Sophia Schachtner recreated the Fachhochschule Dortmund subway station "Saarlandstraße" in the studio at the FH Campus Max-Ophüls-Platz. This was also a particularly elaborate production for the Faculty of Design, which was largely financed through crowdfunding. All scenes were shot in March 2023. Post-production has now also been completed and the work is awaiting its premiere on September 28, 2024 at 11.30 am at the Cineworld in Lünen, director Gero Brötz's home town. Tickets are still available via the movie theater's website(Opens in a new tab) .
