FLÜGGE: think manager, think male?

Published

Romina Maillaro and Prof. Dr. Michael Boecker present the publication.

Under the title "think manager, think male?", Romina Maillaro, Master's graduate of Applied Social Sciences at Fachhochschule Dortmund, presented the publication "Why is the management of social organizations male?" in the Nordstadtgalerie as part of the "FLÜGGE" event series on 13.07.2023. In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Michael Boecker from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies, the publication, published by Lambertus-Verlag, is based on the key findings of her Master's thesis.

What opportunities and prospects are there after studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund? Whether self-employment or research: with the FLÜGGE series of events, the Nordstadtgalerie builds bridges between studies and very individual career paths. Students and alumni are portrayed who take up social issues during or after their studies and think ahead.

Why is the management of social organizations male?

The central topic of the publication: The role of gender in career advancement to management positions in social work.

Romina Maillaro gave the numerous visitors insights into the situation of female professionals in social work with regard to their career opportunities. The graduate not only drew on extensive statistics, but also reported on personal interviews that she conducted during her Master's thesis. Women working in social organizations shared their individual experiences and challenges, after which interested members of the audience had the opportunity to ask Romina Maillaro further questions about the publication and her personal career.

The gallery walls were decorated with questions that encouraged the audience to reflect on existing gender inequality and share personal experiences. With an overwhelming response, participants put numerous answers and ideas on paper about pressing issues in an unequal society.

With events like this, the Nordstadtgalerie aims to offer a platform for topics that are relevant to society as a whole. The aim is to create a meeting place that promotes interdisciplinary exchange and thus opens up new perspectives. Together with cooperation partners and interested parties, solutions for current challenges are developed.
