Is peace more than the absence of war? In artistic works created in the course "Peace - what is it good for?" at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, students from the Faculty of Design take a critical approach to the question of peace.
With the help of photographs, films and sound and installation techniques, works have been created that are thought-provoking. The works were exhibited in the Nordstadtgalerie from July 19 to 26, 2024. During the opening dates, visitors had the opportunity to talk to the students and find out more about their work. The vernissage was accompanied by music from three DJs - the numerous visitors also enjoyed vegan pancakes.
From photographs of queer friends supporting each other to shooting ranges with guns as targets: The student works are characterized above all by thematic diversity. In the course taught by Ina-Jasmin Kossatz, the young artists explored the fundamentals of peace research. This describes a state of social justice, good relationships, ecological sustainability, equality and non-violence as positive peace - the only form of peace that can guarantee a safe and sustainable life.
