Fachhochschule Dortmund hands over cup deposit donations

Published

Great joy about the joint donation success at the SommerFHestival (from left): Sebastian (Grenzenlose Wärme e.V.), Silke (Neven Subotic Stiftung), Felix (Neovaude GmbH), Mona (Grenzenlose Wärme e.V.), André (Fachhochschule Dortmund).

The "Neven Subotic Foundation" and the "Grenzenlose Wärme" association have each received 1,773 euros from Fachhochschule Dortmund. The donation was made possible by visitors to the Fachhochschule Dortmund SummerFHestival on June 18, 2022.

At the SummerFHestival celebrating the 50th anniversary of Fachhochschule Dortmund, many visitors did not exchange their deposit cups for cash, but instead handed in their cups and the deposit at the donation collection points. At the end of the FHestival, at which singer-songwriter BOSSE and the band "Kapelle Petra" played on the large stage in front of the blast furnace on Phoenix West, the helpers counted exactly 1,773 cups worth two euros deposit each.

Neven Subotic sends a video message

The two organizations that are supported by the donation presented themselves on stage and on the festival grounds at the SommerFHestival. Ex-BVB star Neven Subotic joined in with a video message. "Thank you for supporting our work," said the footballer. The Neven Subotic Foundation(Opens in a new tab)  campaigns for the human right to access to clean drinking water. With the donation from the collected cup deposit, access to clean water can be made possible for around 35 people in the project countries Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The foundation is primarily active in rural regions "where people are affected by extreme poverty and generally have to travel long distances", reports Neven Subotic.

Anniversary: We are turning fifty!

The other half of the cup deposit has now been handed over to the Grenzenlose Wärme association(Opens in a new tab)  founded by former students of the Faculty of Applied Social Studies. The association is active in refugee aid and recently organized aid transports to Ukraine - including IT equipment donated by Fachhochschule Dortmund.

Members of Grenzenlose Wärme e.V. also received the fence banners for the SommerFHestival. The more than 300 square meters of tear-resistant tarpaulin will be used as sun and shift protection in the refugee camps near Thessaloniki. The association has been active in northern Greece for several years, providing aid on site and organizing donation transports.

By the way: The "Filmnächte Dortmund",(Opens in a new tab)  the open-air cinema organized by Neovaude GmbH, is currently taking place on the grounds of the SommerFHestival on Phoenix West. On Monday, August 22, 2022, the film "Ephraim and the Lamb", selected by Neven Subotic, will be shown here and all ticket proceeds will go to the Neven Subotic Foundation. Fachhochschule Dortmund is a sponsor of the film nights.
