Fachhochschule Dortmund is sending students abroad for three months for two exciting research projects via the ASA program. The application phase runs until January 20, 2025.

The ASA program is a development policy learning and exchange program that supports young people in promoting global engagement and strengthening sustainable development. It is coordinated by ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL - Service for Development Initiatives in Germany on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is aimed at students, young professionals and young professionals.

The website(asa.engagement-global.de(Opens in a new tab) ) offers a choice of around 100 projects for various disciplines. A special feature of the ASA program is the interplay between theory and practice: participants alternate between seminars lasting several days or a project phase lasting several months in Germany and a three-month project phase in one of more than 50 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America or Southeast Europe.

The application phase is already underway and ends on January 20, 2025.

Participants will receive financial support in the form of a scholarship. During the project phases in Germany, they receive 855 euros per month. The scholarship amount for the time abroad depends on the respective country and is between around 500 and 900 euros per month. There is also a travel allowance of up to 1,000 euros. The program is open to all people who have German citizenship or live in Germany.

Fachhochschule Dortmund is part of the ASA program for the first time with two projects:

► Well networked, locally valued: shaping decentralized and sustainable energy generation

The project focuses on the development and optimization of sustainable, decentralized energy generation and utilization technologies in order to meet the growing demand for energy with environmentally friendly solutions. Together with partner institutions in India, Colombia and Germany, technologies such as biogas plants and solar systems are being investigated and further developed. The aim is to create an analysis model that identifies the conditions for the effective use of the technologies and identifies opportunities for optimization.

► "Ready for change?" - Asking companies about their readiness for the circular economy

The project examines the willingness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Colombia, India and Germany to implement the circular economy model. The Universidad de Medellín developed a survey for this purpose, which will be applied to companies in India and Germany. The aim is to compare the results internationally in order to gain insights into regional differences and similarities in the acceptance and implementation of the circular economy.
