Information fair on the Ruhr fast cycle route (RS1)

Fast facts

Information

The Ruhr Cycle Superhighway (RS1) is set to grow: plans are now becoming more concrete in the Kreuzviertel district for Sonnenstraße, where Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts also has a location. In addition, four parking zones for residents are to be merged around the neighboring Chemnitzer Straße. Details will be provided at an information fair on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 5.30 to 8.30 pm.

During the event at the Dortmund Technical College at Sonnenstraße 96-100, visitors can decide for themselves which aspects they would like to explore at the information stands and which discussions they would like to take part in with urban planners.

"In the Mobility Survey 2023, which we conducted among students and employees at Fachhochschule Dortmund, the desire for more safe cycling infrastructure was expressed time and again," says Sebastian Kreimer(Opens in a new tab) , Sustainability Manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund. The RS1 is part of this infrastructure and is particularly important for the connection between the UAS locations in the city center and on Emil-Figge-Straße. "That's why we are involved in the City of Dortmund's Climate Council, among other things, and are working constructively to promote the mobility transition," says Sebastian Kreimer.

The first section of the Ruhr Cycle Superhighway was inaugurated in Dortmund at the end of 2021. It begins as a cycle route at the southern end of Große Heimstraße and runs along Sonnenstraße to the junction with Arneckestraße. This will be followed by the next construction phase: from Arneckestraße to Chemnitzer Straße. Plans include wider areas for pedestrians and cyclists. The side areas will be redesigned and the trees will be preserved.

Anyone who is unable to attend the information fair but would like to contribute information or suggestions can contact the city by email until February 6, 2024: umsteigerndortmundde
