Photo exhibition "Something to do with soccer"

Information

The photo exhibition "Something about soccer" organized by the City of Dortmund with contributions from Fachhochschule Dortmund alumni provides unusual insights into the world of soccer: portraits and reports show exciting things from the sidelines and interesting facts after the 90 minutes on the pitch. The opening is on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 7 pm.

Soccer is a passion, much more than a hobby for many people. Until the end of August, the exhibition at SUPERRAUM, Brückstraße 64, shows six positions of contemporary photography that deal with very different facets of soccer.

The participating photographers all studied at the Faculty of Design. Some of the reportages and portraits have already appeared in renowned media.

  • Sofia Brandes' photographs of the legionnaires from Japan show the importance attached to soccer abroad.
  • Stefan Grey examines footballers in their role as image carriers for sponsor and supplier campaigns.
  • Victoria Jung portrays the People of Color (POC) among the German national players and looks at the great love for small clubs.
  • Fabian Ritters accompanies Ukrainian war victims who have fought their way back onto the soccer pitch despite serious injuries.
  • Nikita Teryoshin portrayed Sonny, a Jew from Frankfurt who died in 2023 and who, as a Holocaust survivor, managed to play soccer again as a teenager despite his physical and psychological injuries from Theresienstadt. In sport and in the club, he finally found the recognition and home he was looking for.
  • In his photo series,Lukas Zander explores the relationship between clubs and investors.

Talk with the photographers: On Saturday, May 11, 2024, there will be an opportunity to talk to the photographers and find out more about their work from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm.

The exhibition is part of "SPIELRÄUME - The Football Culture Festival for EURO 2024". SPIELRÄUME is the largest festival of soccer culture in Germany to date. For UEFA EURO 2024, it celebrates the cultural power of soccer and the European idea in over 60 events. The venues are the specially created "Stadium of Dreams" in the German Football Museum and other prominent locations in the Rhine-Ruhr region.

Admission to the exhibition and the supporting program is free.
