Modern practice with excellent equipment
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering stands for a strong practical orientation. An internship semester is an integral part of the course. You have the opportunity to flexibly combine major and minor subjects.
Every year for many years, prospective engineers have designed a new racing car based on the latest research findings and compete against teams from all over the world. In order to be even more successful, the Race-Ing. team has a new outdoor location with its own test track.
You can use numerous specialized laboratories with excellent equipment at our faculty. There are laboratories for vehicle electronics, sensor technology, rapid prototyping, robotics for alternative drives and V-engines, among others. The spectrum ranges from CAD pools to a turning and milling center to a 3D printing competence center. Computer simulations are just as possible as building your own prototypes. There are test benches for research and development with industry.r external location with its own test track.

The faculty is closely integrated into the city and its surroundings. We benefit from the good reputation of Fachhochschule Dortmund. This offers attractive opportunities for cooperation with industrial companies in the region, including internships. The integrated internship semester allows you to gain practical experience on site and make your first contacts. Our faculty also cooperates with local institutions such as the Chamber of Crafts and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
As part of a large urban conurbation, Dortmund is also culturally very diverse and multifaceted. It is a good place to live, especially as rents and the cost of living are comparatively low.

Semester abroad possible
You have the opportunity to complete your internship semester abroad in companies or universities. We will support and advise you on all related issues. More than forty partner universities in European and non-European countries are available for a stay abroad.

We also want you to master basic subjects such as math and physics. To this end, we offer preliminary courses to refresh your knowledge before you start your studies and accompanying tutorials during your studies. You will also be supported by an extensive advisory network, e-learning courses and the Maths HelpDesk.
The Career Service at Fachhochschule Dortmund also offers you numerous opportunities to further develop your skills and sharpen your personal profile. For example, you can develop your key social or methodological skills and expand your foreign language and IT knowledge in interdisciplinary events.

Family, health and culture
Fachhochschule Dortmund supports students who have responsibility for children or care for relatives. We offer childcare and advise you on financial and organizational issues.
The health of our students is important to us, so they can take advantage of the university sports program, among other things. Our water dispensers are also available free of charge after sport.
We want students to look beyond the confines of the university. For example, you can attend performances at Theater Dortmund free of charge with your student ID.
