In the psychological student counseling service, we offer you short-term and unbureaucratic support for difficulties in your studies or in the current phase of your life. The joint visualization of goals, action orientation, transparency and confidentiality are important foundations of our work.

Our tasks

Our tasks
As a counseling and placement office for students at Fachhochschule Dortmund, the Family Service is happy to support, advise and accompany you in many compatibility-related questions and concerns. We will also help you when it comes to reconciling care responsibilities with your career or studies.

Student Council
Our tasks
The student council is the student representation of interests for the respective faculty elected by the student body, i.e. by all students of a faculty, which consists of a certain number of elected representatives of the students of a faculty. They are the point of contact for students and lecturers in a faculty.
Once a month, the representatives of the student councils meet at the Student Council Conference (FSRK) to exchange information between the faculties.

Student financing
- BAföG: Assistance with all questions regarding BAföG (e.g. help with filling out the forms, carrying out sample calculations, questions regarding repeat applications and changes of subject, processing applications, etc.).
Student housing
- Letting of affordable accommodation for students near the campus (some of which is accessible for the disabled)
- Move into your own four walls cheaply and easily: Fully furnished rooms with internet access are available in the halls of residence, plus washing and drying machines, parking spaces for bicycles and cars, good accessibility by public transport
- Make contact quickly: Communal rooms enable active interaction in the residential complex. Dedicated caretakers guarantee personal support
Daycare center
- For the compatibility of studies and family: all-day care for a total of 120 children in the Kita im Grünen, educational center on campus. The offer is aimed in particular at students with child(ren). Children whose parents are not students are also accepted. Children are cared for from the age of four months.
Social services
- Psychological counseling: Students receive expert counseling for all kinds of problems and are supported in solving difficulties on their own. Individual and group counseling as well as workshops on various topics are offered.
- Emergency assistance: Financial support for students who, through no fault of their own and unforeseeably, find themselves in an emergency financial situation. This includes Free canteen meals (so-called free tables), grants for rent arrears and incidental rental costs, health insurance premium arrears, support with paying semester fees (re-registration, no first-time enrolment), compensation for uncovered medical expenses and a grant to finance baby and toddler equipment.
- Daka loan: Counseling on how to take advantage of an interest-free student loan from Daka. Daka is a non-profit association of the twelve student unions in North Rhine-Westphalia. The loan is intended to finance living and study-related expenses, including for semesters abroad.
- Debt counseling: The Studierendenwerk covers the costs of debt and insolvency counseling, which is provided weekly by the Diakonie Dortmund.
