The initiative to carry out the present study is based on the commitment of the Wholesale Committee of the Dortmund Chamber of Industry and Commerce to develop a "Pro-Wholesale" framework concept to strengthen the future competitiveness of regional wholesale businesses (Müller 2002). This is linked to two objectives: On the one hand, the aim is to provide regional wholesale companies with scientifically sound and equally practicable management recommendations for market-oriented, profit-stabilizing corporate management. Secondly, the study aims to identify helpful starting points for economic policy location profiling in order to anchor the Dortmund chamber district as an attractive business location in the opinion of current and potential business investors.
