Content
The report describes the methodological procedure of a written survey conducted by the Fachhochschule Dortmund as part of the project "Older people as (co-)producers of neighborhood networks in the Ruhr area (QuartiersNETZ)". The study design including the questionnaire, the selection procedure, the field phase and the data processing are explained. This is followed by selectivity analyses to examine the extent to which the sample is comparable with the neighborhood population. A description of the sample rounds off the methodological report. As part of the survey of the interdisciplinary joint project "QuartiersNETZ", a standardized questionnaire was developed and sent by post to a total of 4,000 residents aged 50 and over who live in one of the reference neighbourhoods in Gelsenkirchen. The addresses were drawn at random from the residents' register by the city administration. The questionnaire covers the main topics of neighborhood and life in the district, social and political participation, equipment and use of technology and the Internet, attitudes towards modern media as well as life situations and satisfaction. 1,186 questionnaires could be evaluated, which corresponds to a response rate of 30%. Comparability with the population, i.e. the residents aged 50 and over in the respective neighborhoods, is mostly given with regard to the distribution of gender, age groups and the proportion of single households in the 80+ age group; in two neighborhood samples, certain subgroups are underrepresented and others overrepresented. People with a migration background are statistically significantly underrepresented in all neighborhood samples.
