Film screening and discussion

19-year-old Jakob lives with his brother and his brother's girlfriend in Cologne. He roams the city, meets up with friends, goes to parties, mooches off passers-by and hangs out at home. Always with him: his video camera. He observes himself and his surroundings obsessively - the camera is both a mirror and a diary.
The subjective camera - used by actor Tom Schilling himself - characterizes the style of the film. It follows the main character's search movements associatively and fragmentarily, a puzzle of snapshots and moods.
"Jakob and the people around him sense that something is wrong, but they have no idea what they can do about it. You can tell that something is bubbling inside them, something could happen at any time, but it's still unclear in which direction it should go:' (Oliver Schwabe)
The two filmmakers were inspired by the "video diaries" that Oliver Schwabe produced for NDR at the end of the 1990s with young people who portrayed their own lives over a period of months.
