Content

This report is a summary of the results of the social science accompanying research of the sub-project "Real network" in the project "Older people as (co-)producers of neighborhood networks in the Ruhr area (QuartiersNETZ)" in the period from November 2014 to September 2017 in relation to the exemplary "case" of the city of Gelsenkirchen. QuartiersNETZ is an interdisciplinary joint project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Real and digital neighborhood networks are being developed with and for older people to enable people to participate in public life independently for longer, to receive support close to home if necessary and to be able to help shape these structures in a participatory manner. This report focuses on participatory neighborhood development in four selected reference neighborhoods in Gelsenkirchen. The aim is to provide an overview of how neighborhood development, participation and network formation are presented locally, as well as the special features and challenges that arise in each case.
