An exhibition by students of the Fachhochschule Dortmund
When borders are drawn, they often ignore geographical, ethnic or historical realities, causing tensions and conflicts. It is no different in design: only those who push boundaries and question rules break new ground. In the EXPERIMENTAL TYPE seminar at Fachhochschule Dortmund, Prof. Lars Harmsen and Andreas Ruhe encouraged students to enter uncharted territory and explore unknown paths. They investigated design strategies that consciously integrate accidents, inaccuracies and unconventional methods. This resulted in experimental typographic works, AI-generated typefaces and variable fonts which have now been published in the publication Experimental Type 3.0 (Slanted Publishers).
