The German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), in cooperation with the Deutsche Bundesbank, has revised the Minimum Requirements for Risk Management (MaRisk) for banks and published the final version on June 29, 2023. BaFin had previously published the consultation paper 06/2022 for the revision of MaRisk in version RS 10/2021 on September 26, 2022. After evaluating the comments and discussions at the two meetings of the MaRisk expert committee in March 2023, constructive solutions were found for some controversial regulations. This article provides an overview of the main adjustments, clarifications and new requirements resulting from the 7th MaRisk amendment, largely in line with the modular structure of MaRisk.
