In view of the importance of the career entry phase for the formation of professional identity, the professional recognition year in the social sector has a crucial function. Based on a broad empirical study of the experiences of graduates of the faculties of social work and social pedagogy in Dortmund, the predominantly positive feedback from the graduates is examined with regard to the connection with relevant previous practical experience, the type of institution and gender, among other things. Overall, it becomes clear that the contribution of UAS-based training to the success of the recognition year and practical suitability can hardly be proven. The author sees one reason for this finding in the "soft study program" characteristic typical of the social services sector.
