About the project

The "CONCRETE FOLLOWS FORM" project shows the implementation of individual exposed concrete panels, which were designed by students as part of the Building Materials Technology 2 course. Concrete, although already known to the ancient Romans, has been further developed in recent years to become an all-rounder among the building materials of the future. Self-compacting, fiber-reinforced or ultra-high-strength concretes are just a few examples.

The concrete exhibits developed by 2nd semester students as part of the semester-accompanying laboratory exercise under the direction of Dipl.-Ing. Daniel Horn M.Sc. were produced using innovative deep-drawn formwork. These were then filled with a special "fine-grain concrete" (self-compacting). The aim of this course was to train the perception of design principles and the manual production of formwork for implementation on a 1:1 scale.

The students were supported throughout the entire process by Paul-Andreas Maurer and Winfried Schmidt. We would also like to thank Dyckerhoff GmbH for their material support. The result is over 70 unique, filigree concrete slabs that would not have been possible using conventional formwork techniques.
