Awarding of the "Impact Cup" sustainability prize

For the first time, Dortmund's two major universities have awarded their sustainability prizes, the "Impact Cup". At the end of the joint sustainability week, committed members of the university were honored. Fachhochschule Dortmund awarded its challenge cup to Prof. Dr. Sabrina Scheidler, who teaches and researches sustainability management and corporate sustainability (CS) at the Faculty of Business Studies.

A few words about the Sustainability Week in June 2024

From 10.06. - 15.06. the joint Sustainability Week took place with the TU Dortmund University, the branches of the universities and the Studierendenwerk Dortmund. We would like to thank everyone. Many thanks to Ute Wiengarn, who taught us how to spin wool despite the cold and rain. Many thanks also to all the service units of Fachhochschule Dortmund who took part in the Market of Sustainability with a stand, we were really well represented as Fachhochschule Dortmund.

We had an exciting discussion with Prof. Dr. Stefanie Rosenmüller, Dr. Kim Lauenroth, students Jeronimo Latz and Friederike Emming and numerous guests at our panel discussion moderated by Prof. Dr. Oliver Langbein.

Our scythe mowing course was particularly well received, thanks again to Ralf Benner from Ruhrpottsense.de.

Sustainability can only be achieved through community and at the same time sustainability creates community, which was noticeable this week.

Thanks to everyone!

Greenhouse gas balance of Fachhochschule Dortmund

Fachhochschule Dortmund's first GHG balance sheet is now complete, and some of you have already taken the opportunity to attend our online event to present the balance sheet. For the assessment, the climate protection management team analyzed the climate-impacting greenhouse gas emissions for the years 2019-2022 for the fields of action mobility, buildings and energy, nutrition and procurement, among others. The high proportion of emissions caused by regular commuting surprised many, but was also positive, as we can certainly influence the way we travel. Other main emitters are heat, electricity, business flights and food. The GHG balance sheet provides us with important insights into potential savings and helps us to plan effective climate protection measures - for the goal of "climate-neutral state administration in North Rhine-Westphalia by 2030", to which Fachhochschule Dortmund has also committed itself. Let's tackle it together!

A repeat date after the summer break is planned for Tuesday, 27.08.2024 from 11:30 - 12:30.

Sustainability strategy

Since the beginning of the year, the Development Circle has now met three times to prepare Fachhochschule Dortmund's sustainability strategy in a participatory manner. In the first two meetings, we first discussed what a sustainability strategy at universities is and, in the second step, what our common understanding of sustainability is. In the third session, we started to develop our own sustainability goals. There will be a fourth meeting after the summer vacation to continue working on the goals. If you are interested in participating or would like to see the draft of the sustainability understanding, please contact us.
