Looking back: International events and visits

  • Workshop as part of the "Global Transformation and Social Work Practice" project from March 19/March 21, 2024

    As part of the DAAD-funded "Global Transformation and Social Work Practice" project, the Faculty of Applied Social Studies will be offering digital workshops in English on various international topics over the next few years. At the end of March 2024, a workshop on "Social Action and Emancipatory Social Work Practice" took place under the direction of Dr. Yasmin Jessie Turton, Senior Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg.   • Visit from India to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from March 12-14, 2024

    A delegation from the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in Mysore, India, visited the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts from March 12-14, 2024 to expand the existing cooperation and find topics for new partnerships in research and teaching.   • Participation in the HAW International Fact Finding Mission Greece from March 18-22, 2024

    Strengthening international cooperation in research and education was the aim of the HAW. International Fact Finding Mission of the DAAD to Greece(Opens in a new tab) . Prof. Dr. Reinhild Schultz-Fölsing from the Faculty of Architecture was invited to take part in this delegation trip together with 13 other representatives of German universities of applied sciences. As part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the DAAD Greece at the Goethe Institute in Athens, a matchmaking event was held with the universities visited and other universities in Greece. There is great interest on the part of the Greek colleagues in collaboration and cooperation in teaching and research.

  • Visit of a student group and rectorate delegation to the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) of the Université de Picardie in Amiens

    From May 12-17, 2024, 14 students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering visited the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) of the Université de Picardie in Amiens, France. The ongoing reciprocal exchange between Fachhochschule Dortmund and Université de Picardie has been taking place for three decades now and represents a constant cornerstone in the exchange relationships between the two institutions. Parallel to the program for the students, a delegation from the Dortmund university management also visited to expand the existing cooperation to other faculties and to explore double degree opportunities under the umbrella of the Franco-German University.   • Two representatives of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) visit Fachhochschule Dortmund from May 21-25, 2024

    The background and aim of the meeting was to make preparations and obtain information on site for the planned UTA Summer School at Fachhochschule Dortmund (3 weeks at the end of July to the beginning of August 2024).

New university collaborations

In recent months, new cooperation agreements have been concluded with the following universities, among others:

  • LEPL Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Media and TV Art College, Tblisi, Georgia (based on the Department of Design)
  • University of Pretoria, South Africa (based on the Department of Design)
  • Technical University of Kenya, Nairobi, Kenya (from the Department of Design)

  • 30 ECTS program for mechanical engineers starts in the winter semester

    The new 30 ECTS program of the University Alliance Ruhr(Opens in a new tab)  for international incoming students in the field of mechanical engineering will start in the winter semester 2024/2025. The program offers students the flexibility to study in English at the three Alliance universities. The focus is on subject-specific courses in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bachelor level at Fachhochschule Dortmund, Bochum University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Westfälische Hochschule.

Upcoming dates: International delegation visits

  • June 17-21, 2024
    The exchange in the DAAD project InduTwin@scale is picking up speed:
    Visits from India and Mexico

    Preparations for the summer school and the "Smart Manufacturing" certificate course are currently in full swing. The university is expecting over 30 international students and representatives from almost all of the project's partner universities (including from India, Mexico, Peru and Colombia) this summer alone.

    As part of the preparations, Prof. Dr. Nataraj (RV College of Engineering in Bangalore, India) will be visiting the university from 17-21 June and has a full schedule: In addition to planning and participating in the certificate course in August, the exchanges with the Indian partner university for the next semesters will also be planned and a double degree agreement prepared, among other things.

    An almost identical program awaits Eva Conraud from the Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico, who will be a guest at the same time. Fachhochschule Dortmund has a long-standing collaboration with Eva Conraud. One of the reasons she is in Dortmund is to prepare the upcoming delegation trip of several colleagues involved in the project to Mexico (23.-29.06.).

Upcoming dates: In-house training courses

  • Cultural sensitization - an interactive workshop for all

    An intercultural training for employees at work and in everyday life. In this training you will learn more about your own cultural imprint/identity, different cultural dimensions and cultural clashes. The aim is to raise awareness of intercultural encounters and practice solutions for work and everyday life.

  • English language café - all levels

    This offer is aimed at all employees who would like to improve their oral English. A topic is discussed in English in a relaxed atmosphere. A trainer is present to provide linguistic support and assistance. The aim of this course is to use English freely, overcome language barriers and gain more language practice.

Introducing: Personnel Development goes International (PEgI)

What is PEgI?
Personnel development measures are increasingly being implemented with internationalization aspects in mind. PEgI - Personnel Development Goes International - is a holistic concept that creates specific support and training opportunities for all employees. PEgI includes the following offers:

  • English language courses and workshops at Fachhochschule Dortmund (in-house)
  • Intercultural training at the Fachhochschule Dortmund (in-house)
  • Offers for internationalization within Germany (external)
  • International teacher and staff mobility

The deadlines for submitting funding applications are - depending on the program - from mid-May to August/September. The first call for proposals for DAAD programs in the area of project funding in 2024 has been published.

  • Ta'ziz Partnership: Short-term measures with countries from the North African and Arab region, application deadline May 31, 2024 for measures from September 01 - December 31, 2024,
