European elections

What kind of world do we want?

Published

The European elections are an interface between the small details of everyday life and the big, far-reaching picture. On election day, UAS Rector Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel recommends keeping an eye on both.

"We all lead busy lives," says Prof. Appel, addressing the students and employees of the UAS as well as everyone else. "Our days are full to bursting with tasks big and small. That's why we have to choose hard where to spend our scarce time and attention.

Voting is another task that doesn't seem vital in everyday life. It requires not only the time for the actual voting process at the polling station or by post, but also the time and attention to think about who you want to vote for.

It is tempting not to take part. To turn away with quick thoughts such as 'My vote won't change anything anyway' and 'Election promises are worth nothing anyway'.

Because we actually know that's not true. That it's more than worth it. That it is and will be vital after all.

I don't want to lecture anyone. But I would like to remind you, because I believe that we can all use every reminder of this.

Let's not let the stress of everyday life cloud our political potential.
Let's go and vote."
