Fachhochschule Dortmund presented itself as an innovative and practice-oriented university on its Open Day. With more than 100 offers - both on site at the Fachhochschule Dortmund locations and digitally online - prospective students were given a comprehensive insight into everyday student life and campus life.
When medical robots are already operating at the main entrance, young people watch in amazement as 1000-degree brass flows into the casting mold in the production technology laboratory, the introduction to accounting only takes an hour and the smell of the AStA grill wafts across the campus - then it's Open Day at Fachhochschule Dortmund. After two years of pandemic, prospective students had the opportunity to meet students and lecturers on site again on June 10, 2022.
Design in electrical engineering?
The focus was on the courses offered by Fachhochschule Dortmund. How much physics is there in information technology? Can Business Studies work without mathematics? What does design have to do with electrical engineering? And is social work really only for idealists? While some prospective students used the open day for an initial orientation, others came to Fachhochschule Dortmund with specific questions - or the desire to get to know a few fellow students. They all found a suitable offer in the more than 100 events.
The laboratory tours at the faculties focused on the use of state-of-the-art technology, smart home and virtual reality applications. The "Race-Ing. Team" from Fachhochschule Dortmund showed how cooperation takes place across departments in addition to the study program.
Counseling by the AStA
Among other things, the Faculty of Business Studies offered a taster lecture on logistics and the effects of the current crises on supply chains. And the AStA (General Students' Committee) had a barbecue stand as well as its copy stores open and offered consultation hours on the topics of financial aid and studying with family.
In addition to the on-site offers at the Fachhochschule Dortmund locations, the Open Day also took place digitally. The website www.fh-dortmund.de/infotag(Opens in a new tab) provided extensive information about the eight faculties as well as virtual tours of the campus, 360-degree views of the laboratories and, of course, the Fachhochschule Dortmund Escape Room.
