Psychology under political dictate and justice

Published

Part of the poster exhibition

Prof. Dr. Katja Nowacki and Prof. Dr. Susanne Guski-Leinwand presented the results of the research project "Seelenarbeit im Sozialismus (SiSaP) - Psychologie unter politischem Diktat und Justiz" at the Nordstadtgalerie.

The aim of the four-year project was to scientifically investigate the role and instrumentalization(s) of psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry in the GDR. The use of psychological expertise in the service of repressive policies was collected, analyzed and evaluated in various contexts.

As part of the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship's exhibition "From the Peaceful Revolution to German Unity", five lectures were held in the Nordstadtgalerie by invited speakers. They offered visitors an insight into the processes that led to protest and opposition by the population and ultimately to change.

In addition, parts of a poster exhibition by the Federal Foundation for Reappraisal were presented.
