Impressions of the Graduate Center 2024 summer party

A cooperative doctorate at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts is a rewarding and intellectually stimulating experience, which is further enriched by the Graduate Center. Particular emphasis is placed on promoting networks and friendships among aspiring young researchers. This year's summer party on 27.06.2024 provided an ideal opportunity for doctoral students and supervising professors to get in touch with each other and exchange ideas outside of their research work.

In bright sunshine and warm temperatures, the Graduate Center's third summer party took place for the first time at its new location at Joseph-von-Fraunhofer-Str. 23. The 60 participants were treated to delicious ice cream, refreshing cocktails and a live violin performance by Anna Pomerantseva. The inspiring speeches by the head of the college and the doctoral student representatives, the awards for special commitment as well as the recognition of completed doctorates and the welcoming of new doctorates also contributed to the festive atmosphere at the joint toast.

Although the summer party was intended to create a relaxed atmosphere, the core of the party was also the opportunity to promote academic networking, make new contacts, open up opportunities for cooperation and highlight interdisciplinary connections. Despite the often arduous and lonely research work, all doctoral students at Fachhochschule Dortmund should feel that they are part of a larger community that offers them support even in difficult times. The summer party as a networking opportunity for doctoral candidates at Fachhochschule Dortmund is particularly important because networking goes far beyond formal encounters. Rather, it is an essential catalyst for intellectual growth, innovation and personal development.

Especially for applied research at universities, networking among researchers has become an indispensable necessity in today's academic world. The increasingly interdisciplinary nature of research often requires several minds to work together, which opens up new perspectives through the exchange of ideas, methods and results and promotes a holistic approach to problem solving. The summer party emphasized the importance of networking and collaboration, which will hopefully have a positive impact beyond the borders of Fachhochschule Dortmund.
