Fachhochschule Dortmund welcomed a prominent visitor from the world of politics on the opening day of Hannover Messe 2023: North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Business Studies and Climate Protection, Mona Neubaur, was there to personally inspect the particularly sustainable and climate-friendly "Nuevo 35" vehicle - and even took a seat behind the wheel of the innovative car.
Minister Mona Neubaur had a closer look at the CO₂-optimized "Nuevo 35" at the NRW state pavilion at the world's most important industrial trade fair. Over several years of development, students on the Master's degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Vehicle Development planned and designed the hybrid car themselves as part of the "GREEN-Gen" UAS project.
Felix Kornmann, research assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, explained to the Minister, among other things, how the students had already paid attention to environmental friendliness in the selection of materials and production. In terms of the entire chain of production, operation and disposal, the vehicle's CO₂ emissions are a record-breaking 35 grams per kilometer.
Practical success of research-based teaching
"The Hannover Messe offers us as a university of applied sciences a great opportunity to showcase a very practical success of our research-based teaching with the 'Nuevo 35', which is also impressive in terms of sustainability and resource efficiency," says Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel.
The "Nuevo 35" can be seen on the remaining days of the trade fair until Friday, April 21, 2023, at the NRW joint stand (Hall 7, Stand D09). Students and employees from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will be on hand to answer questions about the unusual vehicle.
