Fachhochschule Dortmund has sent a donation of furniture to Ukraine: more than 100 cabinets and numerous other pieces of furniture such as desks were loaded into a large truck on June 4, 2024. Most of this furniture is leftover stock from the relocation of employees to Josef-von-Fraunhofer-Straße.

This donation was coordinated by the Sustainability Office (CSR Office) at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Through its contacts with the "Grenzenlose Wärme" association initiated by Fachhochschule Dortmund students and the "Blau Gelbes Herz - Ukrainer in Dortmund" initiative, the CSR Office ensures that the furniture arrives exactly where it is most urgently needed in Ukraine. With their networks, both organizations have excellent knowledge of local needs and can therefore plan the distribution of the donation in the best possible way.

"A central aspect of this campaign, in addition to providing help, is the idea of sustainability," emphasizes Dorothee Albrecht, Climate Protection Manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund. "Instead of simply disposing of the furniture that is no longer needed, Fachhochschule Dortmund has found a sensible and environmentally friendly solution that also supports people in need." "The campaign combines the idea of social responsibility with sustainability and shows how the two can go hand in hand," adds her colleague Karen Isabell Müller.

The donated furniture is all in very good condition, but is no longer needed at Fachhochschule Dortmund itself. "A large part of it comes from the move to the new location on Josef-von-Fraunhofer-Straße," explains Sonja Mika from Facility Management at Fachhochschule Dortmund. As almost all of the offices in the Technology Park have wall cabinets, the large office cabinets were no longer necessary. New working models such as desk sharing and increasing digitalization at the UAS also mean that a certain amount of furniture is no longer required. As part of the donation, the UAS furniture warehouse was therefore also carefully checked to see what was still needed and what could be given away.

Update from June 10, 2024

The furniture from Fachhochschule Dortmund has now arrived safely in Ukraine. Many helping hands first loaded them from the truck into a gym.
