Around 21,000 visitors to the NRW Construction Fair in the Westfalenhallen in March 2025 had the opportunity to discover numerous student works from the Faculty of Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

As every year, the NRW construction trade fair attracted visitors to Dortmund's Westfalenhallen.

Among other things, the results of the "Concrete follows Form" course from the Building Materials Technology department and the "Spaceframes" seminar from the "Digital Methods in Architecture" department were on display over the three days of the fair. "We had many interesting conversations and were able to establish new contacts," reports Daniel Horn, research assistant at the Faculty of Architecture and organizer of the UAS trade fair appearance. "Now we are already in the process of planning the next activities and exhibitions."

"SOffi" at the city stand

The stand of the City of Dortmund's planning department, where Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts' mobile sustainability office "SOffi" made a stop, also attracted a lot of curiosity at the building fair. While the city presented its building sites in the "Tiny Village Sölde", the FH presented its unusual construction trailer - along with other student theses from the Faculties of Architecture and Design on "small living".

A Tiny House Office for Fachhochschule Dortmund

"The discussions with visitors were often about how to live well in old age and, above all, how to reduce the size of their own living space," says Sebastian Kreimer, CSR Manager at Fachhochschule Dortmund and supervisor at the stand. "As a social scientist, I found it very interesting to hear about people's housing needs. There are certainly still some research topics to be identified here. But we also had many conversations about 'SOffi' and what the aim of a mobile sustainability office is. There were also several requests for cooperation with teaching and research."
