Contents

The following content is offered in the course Construction Elements I (2nd semester):

Teaching methods

The lectures convey the theoretical content. Practical problems are dealt with promptly in the corresponding exercises and practicals using typical tasks. The solutions are developed and presented individually and in teams.

Participation requirements

Formal:

In order to be admitted to the final module examination, at least 35 ECTS from the first two semesters must have been earned at the time of registration for the examination.

Content:

Knowledge from the Statics and Mathematics I modules is strongly recommended

Forms of examination

The module concludes with a written exam.

In addition, bonus points (up to 33% of the points required to pass the examination) can be credited in accordance with §27 RahmenPO for written coursework or coursework organized in the e-learning system (ILIAS) in the form of graded exercises or other tests during the semester. The tests to be taken during the semester are described at the beginning of the semester.

The module examination must be completed with a minimum grade of sufficient (4.0).

Learning outcomes/competences

The thesis demonstrates that students are able to solve a practice-oriented engineering task from their field of specialization within a specified period of 12 weeks using scientific and practical methods.

Contents

Bachelor thesis:

The Bachelor's thesis consists of the independent processing of an engineering task (theoretical, constructive, experimental) from the subject area of the Bachelor's degree program. The thesis can be carried out in the laboratories of the faculty, in an industrial company or, in suitable cases, as a written term paper (literature work). The thesis must be submitted in written form to present the applied engineering methods and results.

The Bachelor's thesis typically consists of an analysis, in which the requirements are determined, and the concept, which discusses the alternative solutions and maps the requirements to the existing framework conditions. In addition, there is usually an implementation of particularly important aspects of the concept. The implementation alone does not provide sufficient opportunities to apply methods and findings specific to the profession and is therefore not sufficient for a Bachelor's thesis. The Bachelor's thesis includes a work plan, which students draw up and agree with their supervisors. Such a plan offers opportunities to apply the project management skills acquired in the project and is an important prerequisite for successfully completing the required work in the specified time.

Colloquium:

At the beginning of the colloquium, the student presents the results of their Bachelor's thesis in the form of a presentation. This is followed by an examination discussion.

Teaching methods

Independent, practice-oriented project work. Supervision is provided by a professor and, in the case of industrial work, in cooperation with the project manager in the company.

Participation requirements

Formal:

In order to participate in the Bachelor's thesis and colloquium, at least 180 ECTS credit points must be earned. For further admission requirements, see §29 of the StgPO Mechanical Engineering (2021).

Forms of examination

Module examination in the form of a project-related written elaboration, 30 to 45 minutes colloquium including an examination discussion.

Requirements for the awarding of credit points

The Bachelor's examination is passed if all prescribed module examinations, the thesis and the colloquium have each been graded at least "sufficient" (4.0) or "passed".
