  • In the Building Materials Technology 1 module, students learn about the basic building materials used in design and construction.
  • The constructional properties and typical applications of building materials are taught.The basic concepts of the mechanical and physical properties of building materials are defined and linked to the disciplines of structural engineering, structural design, building physics and design.

Contents

  • The technological development of building materials is considered against the background of the cultural-historical development of mankind.
  • Building material technology principles for the durable and thus sustainable use of building materials are conveyed
  • The entire life cycle of building materials is explained, from the selection of raw materials to the manufacturing process, the functional life as a building component and the possibility of environmentally friendly recycling.
  • The individual building materials are presented in their entire range of functionality, external shaping and design appearances.Practical examples convey the tension between artistic design, sustainable construction and Business Studies.

  • The building materials technology module focuses on promoting an intuitive understanding of building materials and their possible applications in architecture.
  • The functional, aesthetic use of materials in combination with building construction and the application of the latest technologies should be taught and learned from design to detailed planning. The focus is placed on innovative and energy-efficient construction methods.Special emphasis is placed on the resource-conserving use of sustainable and recyclable building materials.

Contents

  • The task of future architects in the functional and environmentally and climate-friendly use of materials is further deepened in practical scientific laboratory work.
  • The selection of suitable materials and building material systems with regard to construction, load-bearing structure, building physics and building technology is crucial in the planning process and is what makes interdisciplinary design, planning and construction possible in the first place.
  • The budding architects learn about the manufacturing process of building materials through to material-appropriate product application and document the results of material tests and design studies they have carried out themselves.
  • Newly developed building materials are to be considered for use in the construction industry so that this knowledge can also be incorporated into other modules.
  • In close cooperation with industry and Business Studies, students learn about the responsible use of different building materials and product systems.

  • As a basic course, the module forms partly mutual links to the subjects GK1/2 (M08; continuation of the semester task through digital implementation of the bound plans), DT (M06; plan representation and drawing standards for technical drawings) GL (M11; layout techniques and plan representation) and CE (M27; application of digital work processes, image processing).
 
  • The digital building model constructed in CZ Part 2 can be further used in the subjects TGA and BB to extend the value chain to practical aspects of Building Information Modeling (BIM) or for planning building services building equipment.

Forms of examination

Four semester-accompanying performance assessments in the form of room exercises or term papers. One ungraded seminar paper may be required per module section/semester.

Requirements for the awarding of credit points

The final grade of the module (SoS+WS) must be at least 4.0. However, each of the two modules must be passed.

Importance of the grade for the final grade

Per semester: Arithmetic mean of the semester examination results, whereby the worst individual result is not included in the calculation. Partial performances not completed are assessed with 5.0.

    • The participants have acquired a basic understanding of the physical principles of thermal and moisture protection, the interaction between constructions / buildings and the physical phenomena of heat and moisture, energy saving, comfortable and hygienic living conditions in rooms and protection against moisture damage. They are able to independently carry out the building physics verifications required by the building authorities in the areas of thermal and moisture protection and energy saving and can apply, evaluate and discuss the findings of building physics in the solution of building and construction tasks (including the assessment of structural damage) in the context of construction, phenomena, mechanisms and calculation across disciplines.

    BP1 deals with the interaction between building construction / buildings and the physical phenomena of heat and moisture. Structural damage in new buildings and renovations is often caused by ignorance of the laws of building physics. BP1 is therefore closely related to building material technology (materiality), technical construction and building design.

    Students work on and visualize their plans on the basis of ongoing study projects. These must be presented in the form of a presentation. Presentation techniques, gestures and rhetoric are taught for this purpose.

    Contents

    The aim of this seminar is to develop presentations. On the basis of existing plans and sketches (from the fields of design, building construction and urban planning), a layout will be developed that presents the various projects in a "screen-appropriate" way. Details or special features of the projects are visually processed (Photoshop) and implemented in PowerPoint with the inclusion of appropriate navigation In addition, rhetorical basics (facial expressions, gestures) are taught. The presentation of the interim results is obligatory. This is followed by a lecture sequence on presentation techniques and rhetoric.
    At the end of the semester, the presentations are given in the large lecture hall. These presentations should be seen as exercises to simulate the real thing in front of a specialist audience and to face constructive criticism.     This specialization provides an in-depth study of selected areas of building materials technology, which is not possible within the time frame of other courses. Students learn the methodical and professional handling of modern building materials and their application in building construction through self-conducted material studies and corresponding laboratory exercises. In the subsequent practical implementation of the work, a direct practical reference to
    modern building materials and their processing techniques. This is done in close cooperation with industry and Business Studies. Finally, the results are scientifically processed, compiled and presented.

    Learning outcomes/competences

    Students work on and visualize their plans on the basis of ongoing study projects. These must be presented in the form of a presentation. Presentation techniques, gestures and rhetoric are taught for this purpose.

    Contents

    The aim of this seminar is to develop presentations. On the basis of existing plans and sketches (from the fields of design, building construction and urban planning), a layout will be developed that presents the various projects in a "screen-appropriate" way. Details or special features of the projects are visually processed (Photoshop) and implemented in PowerPoint with the inclusion of appropriate navigation In addition, rhetorical basics (facial expressions, gestures) are taught. The presentation of the interim results is obligatory. This is followed by a lecture sequence on presentation techniques and rhetoric.
    At the end of the semester, the presentations are given in the large lecture hall. These presentations should be seen as exercises to simulate the real thing in front of a specialist audience and to face constructive criticism. A video recording, which is shown in a final "feed-back" round, serves as a further aid for checking your own presentation.

    On the one hand, the content of the HOAI, service phases 6 and 7 (tendering and awarding) are oriented towards the construction industry. Different tendering procedures (national and international) are presented and the various awarding options (individual awarding, GMP contracts) are explained. Explanations of the parties involved in construction as well as current trends such as new HOAI specifications complete the course. The two own designs are therefore mandatory for the preparation of the fire protection concepts, the presentation and the elaboration.
