Interview with Kimia Saleh
Kimia is passionate about biomedical engineering and programming
Kimia Saleh is a bright, inquisitive young woman who took a very brave step three years ago and decided to come to Germany alone without her family to study. Deciding that her studies should go in a medical direction, she completed a one-year medical course in Frankfurt in order to have her Abitur recognized in Germany.
Born in Iran, she was enthusiastic about scientific subjects such as biology, chemistry and physics from an early age. She had initially thought about studying pharmacy, but was then introduced to the Faculty of Information Technology at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts by a classmate.
She has been enthusiastically studying biomedical engineering there since 2021 and has discovered her passion for programming. " It wasn't easy at the beginning, I'd never had much to do with technology before, but it's fun," says Kimia. She sees the challenges for herself more in the cultural differences than in the form of the subject matter; after all, there is more than one way to approach the topics.
Kimia began her studies during lockdown. This was not easy at the beginning, as there was hardly any social contact with fellow students and lecturers, but she is a determined optimist and explained, "The lack of travel time gives me more time to study".
For her future career, she would like to try out more things and would also like to aim for a Master's degree.
