The Race-Ing. team from Fachhochschule Dortmund can look back on a successful racing season. For the first time since 2015, a race car built by Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts passed every single one of the demanding technical inspections and was allowed to take part in the main race of Formula Student Germany at the Hockenheimring.
With 13th place in the Formula Student Combustion class of Formula Student Germany, the Race-Ing. team around team manager Zeliha Alak is highly satisfied and motivated for the coming season. Once again, key elements of the racing car will be replaced, modified and renewed - as prescribed by the regulations. Because in Formula Student, time on the race track is only a small part of the evaluation. Design, innovation, business plan and marketing activities are also included.
Students from different faculties work together to achieve this and young talents from the student body are always welcome. "We operate autonomously like an independent company with different divisions," explains Zeliha Alak at the end of the season on October 13 at the LaSiSe research and technology center in Selm.
New season with new engine and new monocoque
The Race-Ing. team presented its successful racing car in action at the LaSiSe research and technology center and also invited sponsors. Because fresh capital is needed for the new season. "In addition to a new engine, the monocoque, i.e. the body of the car, is to be revised," explains Daniel Jovanovic, Head of the Engine Department. The production phase for the new racing car will begin in February 2024. The team's 30 or so UAS students will then once again be facing long days: up to 70 additional hours per week - alongside their studies.
"In the Race-Ing. team, our students live the interdisciplinary cooperation at Fachhochschule Dortmund," says Prof. Dr. Tamara Appel, Rector of Fachhochschule Dortmund, praising the commitment. Those who are part of the team can gain a wealth of practical experience. "I wish the Race-Ing. team every success for the next season," said the Rector.
