Orange your world! For the second time, central contact points such as the International Office and the faculties presented their offers for the internationalization of studies with an "International Day". Students were able to obtain comprehensive information on October 30, 2024 at the two UAS locations Emil-Figge-Straße and Sonnenstraße.
"With the International Day, we want to make the variety of international activities at the university visible and awaken a desire for international experiences," explains André Menke from the International Office's organization team. The event bundles information offers and gives all students the opportunity to get to know the various exchange opportunities better and to be inspired by the experiences of others. "Many students may have already toyed with the idea of spending time abroad themselves, but are not yet sure where to go, what funding opportunities are available and what organizational steps need to be taken. The International Day is an excellent opportunity to gather information in this regard," says André Menke.
Tips at eye level
In addition to the International Office and the faculties, various exchange organizations with which the University of Applied Sciences cooperates and which further expand the range of possible destinations for a stay abroad were also represented at the information stands. Above all, however, interested parties were able to obtain first-hand information: In addition to the international representatives, student internationalization ambassadors and returnees were also present at several department stands to give their fellow students tips for planning and share their experiences.
"Info-Talks" in the middle of it all
This was also at the heart of the "Info Talks", which took place around lunchtime at both venues and were open to all visitors. A new feature of this year's edition was that the talks were integrated directly into the events around the exhibition tables and therefore attracted more attention. In this format, students and lecturers reported on stays and projects in countries including Kenya, India, Mexico, Austria, the USA, France, Belgium and Estonia. "We would like to thank all our talk guests for their exciting insights," says André Menke.
Good mix
The overall conclusion of International Day 2024 was positive: "The combination of short talks and information stands was a good mix for our students - we got into conversation with a lot of students, including many who had not yet dealt with the topic of foreign or international affairs at all," says Anne Krainz from the Faculty of Architecture at the Emil-Figge-Straße location, for example. "Of course, the venue in the foyer of our faculty was ideal for us and also a nice change and enrichment of our everyday faculty life."
