Fachhochschule Dortmund university location development plan: 1st milestone reached

Published

Fachhochschule Dortmund is pursuing the goal of bundling its study and research programs at one location in order to strengthen the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education of its students. Fachhochschule Dortmund is thus addressing the requirements of future specialists and implementing them in its teaching. An updated University Location Development Plan (HSEP) forms the basis for a joint location for all faculties at Fachhochschule Dortmund.

Fachhochschule Dortmund has now developed a core element of the HSEP and is in the process of coordinating this with the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The document not only describes the objectives and visions of the UAS, but also presents the area calculation according to the characteristic value method and an area balance. The HSEP is not tailored to a specific location. There are various options for a location, including the area at Dortmund harbor. Fachhochschule Dortmund and MKW are jointly examining these options on the basis of the HSEP.

Next steps

In order to complete the HSEP process as quickly as possible, the Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb (BLB) NRW has already started to assess the structural condition of the existing buildings at the three locations Sonnenstraße, Emil-Figge-Straße and Max-Ophüls-Platz in parallel with the area calculation. As soon as this building condition assessment is available, it will be possible to derive from the HSEP which structural requirements exist with regard to Fachhochschule Dortmund's strategic development goals.

Support

Fachhochschule Dortmund was supported in the preparation of the HSEP 2024 as well as the development of the HIS key value procedure by the Competence Center for Building at Universities in NRW (KoBa NRW), the HIS Institute for Higher Education Development e. V. (HIS-HE) and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft e. V. (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany).
